5/20/2018 Class UpdateHappy Weekend Families!
I hope you are all enjoying the weekend, despite the gloomy weather. We are still working hard in room 105, even though the end is near. Reading/Writing/Grammar - Students are continuing to read at their independent and instructional levels. Students are responding in writing to text daily and continuing to work on advancing their vocabulary. We read trickster stories last week. Students learned how to properly use "a" vs. "an" in writing and speaking. Students will be completing. a summer writing project and writing letters to incoming first graders. We are working on reading silently for a sustained period of time (10-15 minutes). Math- We completed our MAP Math Test this past week. The students did exceptionally well with their independent growth goals. I am so proud of them! We will continue to review skills learned this year and practice our facts. Next week, we will work on a logic puzzle and focus on problem solving. I will use stories to present a problem and the students will work on coming up with various solutions. Science - We are continuing our study of animal adaptations. We are reading stories about animals, watching video clips and learning about how changes to our exterior help us survive. We have read the series "If I had Animal ______" (Teeth, Feet, Ears, Nose and Hair). These are highly engaging texts and the students are extremely interested in non-fiction animal books. I highly recommend checking these books out from the local library. We will conclude our science unit this coming week. As a final project, students will select an animal adaptation and apply it to themselves and articulate how this adaptation would help them. Be on the lookout for their science folders coming home. Final Notes: ** We are completed finished with year end MAP testing. Student reports will be in their report card coming home June 4th. ** Field day is this Thursday, May 24th. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD WEAR RED. I'll send home a reminder Wednesday. ** No School Friday, May 25th. 5/18/2018 0 Comments More Guest Readers!5/15/2018 0 Comments Student Readers! We are off to a great start with our student readers!!
